Chinese Taipei – Poland     22 – 8
Czech Republic – Hungary   17 – 7
Netherlands – Germany      20 – 5

The team of Chinese Taipei is a well oiled team, it plays very efficient and dominates every aspect of the game against Poland.

The verbal support of the public really stimulates the fast players of Chinese Taipei. Despite that, Poland regularly scores as well.

The Czech team represent itself in a good way at the tournament. Hungary experienced that the experience of the Czech players makes them score, 17-7.

"Physical contact " were the key words in the match between the Netherlands and Germany. Germany had a well organized defense, but the Dutch team only needed little chances to score. However the German team lacked experience to defeat the Dutch team.

Belgium – Catalonia     16 – 6
England – South Africa  11 - 7

The team of Portugal is going through a rollercoaster of  learning experiences during this U19jwc. Against the spontaneous youthful team of JTT East the Portuguese team finally showed that they can compete. The JTT East team defeated Portugal, but the Portuguese team showed that they learn and grow during the tournament.

From the start of the game the team of Catalonia didn't stand a chance against Belgium. Belgium players showed very nice scores and the Catalonian attack didn't stand a chance against the Belgium defense, so half time score was 8-3.

The Belgium team was pleasantly surprised that the referee during this game was a referee from Belgium. Final score 16-6.

South Africa learns a lot during these days as well, against the English team they really were a worthy opponent, final score 11-7.

Interview with Shiara Driessen, player of the Belgium team PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mieneke Zevenberg

a photo of Shiara DriessenIt is the last time Shiara can compete in the U19jwc. She is almost 19 years old, which means she has to say goodbye to a very nice period of korfball.

Looking back on the past years playing in the Belgian team, she is very satisfied. "The first time I was competing, we became champions in Stiens. I think we have a good chance of winning the title again this year. It is not a run race this year, as Chinese Taipei has a good team as well. Today we have to play against England, but  I am not afraid of them, but tomorrow will be an exciting day, and I am a little bit nervous for it. A lot of countries appear to have improved their game over the past year, especially Portugal. Our team is very experienced, we have a lot of older players, but this year we really have to compete if we want to become champions again".

Shiara plays korfball for 12 years now, and became a solid national player by training hard and forced her way into the national team by distinguishing herself from other players. This year she missed the opening ceremony due to exams in Belgium and still has her mind on whether she passed or not. She just played against Catalonia and it went well, as expected, however the game was physical and the referee was too tolerant.
