For a very long time now volunteers in the University Medical Center in Groningen have created television broadcasts for patients. Special attention is given to the sick children who have their own hour of television on Wednesday afternoon with the name “Ranja with a straw”. The team of UMCG KinderTV has taken the decision to have six broadcasts each year dedicated to sports and so create enthusiasm with the television viewers through demonstrations for the specific sports. Because of the work of the House of Sports the JWC organizing committee was put in touch with the television creators. The producers had an instant liking to the idea and agreed to create a 40 minute program with our young korfball players. On Wednesday 17th February therefore a delegation of Korfball teams Sparta, Rodenburg and OWK went to the UMCG. De combined korfball teams from Leek brought some twenty children and three coaches to promote the korfball sport in general and the official worldcup korfball for juniors; U19 Junior World cup. As a result there was a pr-movie on korfball on Kinder tv UMCG. With a good number of real banners and an official U19 JWC banner the hallway next to the children’s ward was transformed into a real korfball arena.

In the broadcast the children demonstrated a number of korfball techniques with professional commentary provided. Finally there was a mini game between the D- and C-youth teams clearly showing korfball is a sport that requires technique and skill.
In return for their enthusiastic contribution the children will receive shortly a DVD from the UMCG with the recording. This will also be available online.
