Interview with Shiara Driessen, player of the Belgium team PDF Print E-mail

a photo of Shiara DriessenIt is the last time Shiara can compete in the U19jwc. She is almost 19 years old, which means she has to say goodbye to a very nice period of korfball.

Looking back on the past years playing in the Belgian team, she is very satisfied. "The first time I was competing, we became champions in Stiens. I think we have a good chance of winning the title again this year. It is not a run race this year, as Chinese Taipei has a good team as well. Today we have to play against England, but  I am not afraid of them, but tomorrow will be an exciting day, and I am a little bit nervous for it. A lot of countries appear to have improved their game over the past year, especially Portugal. Our team is very experienced, we have a lot of older players, but this year we really have to compete if we want to become champions again".

Shiara plays korfball for 12 years now, and became a solid national player by training hard and forced her way into the national team by distinguishing herself from other players. This year she missed the opening ceremony due to exams in Belgium and still has her mind on whether she passed or not. She just played against Catalonia and it went well, as expected, however the game was physical and the referee was too tolerant.
