The Westerkwartier has turned into an international orientated region. After strenuous games, players, coaches, team managers, drivers and translators of different countries can rest and find new inspiration while staying with their Dutch host family. At first everyone is not quit used to the situation, what kind of people are we dealing with? Is there a 'click'. What is their favorite thing to eat, what kind of lunch do they need?
Everyone is tired after the trip to the Netherlands, the language is different, not to mention culture... However, hospitality and sports go together very well, even though one doesn't speak each other's language.
So, after one or two days a kind of routine has developed between the host families and their guests.
Internet, the Google translation site and the jwc site reporting the games, it all contributes to a very special, sporty and social Easter weekend.
During the day there are fierce battles to win the games, during the evening there is a meal with the host family, sharing backgrounds and experiences with each other.
The buffet on Friday evening together with Rumania and Portugal was a great experience, people eat together, have their pictures taken together; no boundaries exist at those moments.
In the meantime the end of the tournament is near, in a few spare moments souvenirs are bought to take home, and the bonding with the host family has become stronger during the days. There is already talk of an exchange during the fall... In short, and I hope I can say this on behalf of everybody involved, this bears repetition. |
